Meet Darcy McLean and Connie Pierson! Both are Denver-area residents who are low-vision and hard of hearing due to adult-onset health conditions. With backgrounds in low-vision skills training and assistive technology, they bring firsthand experience and professional expertise to their advocacy work. RecConnect is an emerging organization dedicated to improving access to recreation, wellness, and social opportunities for Coloradans who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, low-vision, or DeafBlind. 

Backed by the DeafBlind Action Team (DBAT), Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition, and other partners, RecConnect works to reduce barriers and foster inclusion. They’ve successfully collaborated with therapeutic recreation professionals in Thornton and Arvada to launch accessible fitness classes, and are eager to expand these partnerships statewide. RecConnect is developing training materials to support staff in better engaging with the sensory disability community and is seeking your input on what would be most helpful. Connie and Darcy are looking forward to connecting, sharing ideas, and exploring how we can support efforts in building inclusive spaces for all.
