TRSC Spring Workshop (Hybrid)

TRSC Spring Workshop (Hybrid)

Thursday, April 4, 2024 (9:00 AM - 12:30 PM) (MDT)

Description

The Therapeutic Recreation Society of Colorado is hosting their Spring Workshop on April 4th from 9:00am - 12:30pm at Rude Recreation Center in Denver with the option to join virtually via Zoom.

The Therapeutic Recreation Section is bringing you two CEU-certified trainings featuring Roberta Gold, CHP, (she/her), the President of the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor and C. Castro, (they/elle) from Out Boulder. Roberta's session, Laughter for the Health of It, teaches you about how humor effects positive change. Castro's session, Beyond Binary, is a training to highlight LGBTQ+ core concepts and etiquette essentials.

This event is open to everyone! You do not have to be working in the field of therapeutic recreation to attend. You have the choice to register for both sessions or the Beyond Binary session only. You can choose to attend in-person or virtually. The Zoom details for the virtual option will be in your event confirmation email. Please note that the sessions will not be recorded.

Both sessions are eligible for 0.1 CEUs. Morning snacks and beverages will be provided.

Event Schedule:

Check-in: 8:30am - 9:00am

Session 1: 9:00am - 10:15am

Break: 10:15am - 10:30am

Session 2: 10:30am - 12:30pm

Session Descriptions:

Session 1: Laughter for the Health of It

Laughter for the Health of It focuses on laughter and humor since these are the most universal and outward forms of positive emotions that human beings can express. The incredible value that lies in our ability to laugh in a variety of situations is gaining worldwide recognition. Although we can often neither change a situation we find ourselves in, nor can we change another person’s behavior; we have complete control over the way we look at life.

Speaker: Roberta Gold, CHP, (she/her), President of AATH

Session 2: Beyond Binary

Join us for an educational session, Beyond Binary: LGBTQ+ Core Concepts & Etiquette Essentials, with Out Boulder County (OBC) - the area's LGBTQ+ advocacy and community center. Education Coordinator, Castro (they/elle), discusses the difference and relationship between sex assigned at birth, gender identity and expression, and sexual orientation. They also cover appropriate language, pronouns, effective allyship in both professional and personal settings, and answer those questions you've been afraid or unsure how to ask.

Understanding and awareness is part of creating a more welcoming environment, and Beyond Binary is a great opportunity to deepen your knowledge and prepare yourself to be a better ally.
